Second Call for Applications for the EIB Institute Artists’ Development Programme (Mentoring Programme / Artists’ Residency)
Leading Polish artist Mirosław Bałka as mentor for second year running
Thematic focus “The Imprint of Man – Representing the Anthropocene ”
The European Investment Bank (EIB) Institute is pleased to announce the second edition of its Artists’ Development Programme (ADP) both a mentoring programme and an artist’s residency, targeting visual artists (aged <35) from EU Member States focusing on “The Imprint of Man – Representing the Anthropocene”. The successful applicant will be mentored by internationally acclaimed Polish artist Mirosław Bałka. The EIB Institute aims to pay tribute to the extraordinary pool of creative talent in Europe. The ADP provides an outstanding opportunity for an emerging visual artist to develop her/his practice at the highest level, while being mentored by a leading peer.
Thematic focus
The residency is open to all individuals wishing to develop their practice in a professional context by creating a new (body of) work(s) on the theme “The Imprint of Man – Representing the Anthropocene”, using photography, video, installations and/or new media.
Eligibility
Applicants should be under 35 years of age at the time of application, in keeping with the EIB Institute’s focus on promoting young or emerging talent. Applicants must have an EU nationality or reside in one EU country. In order to facilitate communications with the mentor and local artistic environment in Luxembourg, participants should be fluent in English.
Jury
Applications are evaluated by a selection jury consisting of members of the EIB Institute Arts Committee and staff, external arts professionals and the mentor. The jury bases its selection on the proposal submitted answering the creative brief, the potential impact of the residency on the applicant’s career, and the relevance of the applicant’s practice to the cultural context of the EIB Institute.
Budget and duration
The EIB Institute will take over the artist’s travel costs to and from Luxembourg and Warsaw. The artist in residence will also receive a stipend (EUR 100 per day). At the end of the residency, the participant will receive an artist fee of EUR 1,500.
Before or during the residency in Luxembourg, the winner will spend a few days visiting the mentor and experiencing the latter’s creative studio(s) in Warsaw. The duration of the residency in Luxembourg is 4-6 weeks, starting on 1 September 2014. The artist participating in the ADP will be provided a living/working space located in Centre Culturel de Rencontre Abbaye de Neumünster, situated in the culturally rich Grund district of Luxembourg city.
Upon completion of the residency, the EIB might consider acquiring an artwork from the artist.
