Based in Brussels, the Thalie Art Foundation’s mission is to support various forms of socially-engaged contemporary art, accompanying socio-artistic projects as well as promoting intercultural exchanges.
PRESENTATION
The residency welcomes creators committed to socio-political themes and who wish to become involved in an artistic project in and around Brussels, European capital, and doted with a great cultural diversity. The project is to be in collaboration with local actors involved with the cultural and social life of Brussels. The Thalie Art Foundation Residency’s goal is to offer a new approach to contemporary creation by involving the audience as a protagonist of the artistic project and by supporting the production of projects specific by the diversity of their work processes and forms of visibility (Films, editions, installations, performances, conferences, seminars, exhibitions…).
SPACE
Built in 1924 by the Belgian architect Jean Hendricks, the Foundation is located in the municipality of Ixelles, in the bustling « Tenbosch’s district», not far from art galleries, Ixelles’s ponds and the Ecole nationale supérieure des arts visuels of La Cambre (ENSAV). Of a traditionalist style, with « Art deco » elements, the Brussels home of the Thalie Art Foundation offers an exhibition space, studio and an experimental kitchen for specific workshops.
PROFILE APPLICATION
Artists / authors/choreographers / performers / critics having already carried a visual art or a writing project with a various range of public and wishing to explore the territory of Brussels in its cultural diversity. English and French speakers only, not living in Belgium.
TERMS OF THE RESIDENCY
Duration : depending on the project / Number of residents at the same time : 3
Residency support to the resident will include : – Workspace – Accomodation – Production funding – Contact with local socio-cultural actors – Logistical support – Project visibility in the Foundation

Beginning of the residency : mid-january 2017
APPLICATION GUIDELINES
The application form must be sent by post and by email to residence(at)thalieartfoundation.org before the 31st of May 2016. Please include :
• Detailed description of the residency project including the intended target audience (Max 1000 words), projected budget and anticipated schedule
• Visual documentation : PDFs, Images (JPG only) and video links (Vimeo, Youtube or at the artist’s discretion)
• Resume : Including educational background and exhibition history
• Two professional references who can comment on your work and artistic development
