“Form, Art and the Environment – Engaging in Sustainability”

“Form, Art and the Environment – Engaging in Sustainability”

Cet ouvrage se consacre à l'apport des arts dans la promotion du développement durable et de la culture.

Auteurs : Nathalie Blanc (Université Paris Diderot, France) et Barbara L. Benish (ArtMill: Center for Sustainable Creativity, République Tchèque)

Collection : Routledge Studies in Culture and Sustainable Development

Nombre de page : 242 p.

This book investigates how community arts, environmental creativity, and the changing role of artists in the Polis contribute to the goal of a sustainable future from a number of interdisciplinary perspectives. From considering the role that art works play in revealing local environmental problems such as biodiversity, public transportation and energy issues, to examining the way in which artists and art works enrich our multidimensional understanding of culture and sustainable development, Form, Art and the Environment advocates the inestimable value of art as an expressive force in promoting sustainable culture and conscious development. Utilising a broad range of case studies and analysis from a body of work collected through the international environmental COAL prize, this book examines the evolution of the relationship between culture and the environment.

Quelques mots sur les auteurs

Dr. Nathalie Blanc is Director of Research (DR) at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) in Paris, France. Her PhD. is in Urban Geography, with main research interests in Urban Environment; Nature in Cities; Environmental Aesthetics, including dozens of articles and several books (Animals and the city, O. Jacob, 2000), (Towards an environmental aesthetic, Quae, 2008; Ecoplasties.Practices and thoughts of art and ecology, éd. Manuella, 2010; New Urban Aesthetics, Armand Colin, 2012). It should be noted that her creative activity is not limited to geographical research but possesses a strong aesthetical dimension. This is not merely a “spiritual supplement” but an ecopoetic concern overcrossing more and more often her research work on nature in the city and environmental aesthetics.

Barbara Benish is an artist raised in the U.S., who moved to the Czech Republic in 1993 after completing a year as a Fulbright Scholar in Prague. Benish’s own work has been shown at P.S.1 Museum in New York, U.N.E.S.C.O. Headquarters in Paris, the Venice Biennale in Italy and a survey exhibition at the Pomona Museum of Art at the Claremont Graduate University in California, (her alma mater). Her work is represented in public and private collections around the world including The Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Stadtgeschichtliche Museen in Nürnberg, Germany. Barbara Benish has had over 40 solo exhibitions internationally.
